Dentistry is the pathway to becoming a fully licensed dentist. Unlike Dental Assisting or Dental Hygiene, this route requires a much longer university preparation, usually including a bachelor’s degree, science prerequisites, admissions testing, competitive application, and four years of dental school.
Dentists diagnose and treat oral disease, perform restorations, crowns, extractions, preventive care, basic surgical procedures, and may specialize in orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, or other advanced areas.
It is the route with the highest professional autonomy and income ceiling, but also the highest debt, academic pressure, and time commitment.
